Seven travelers are waiting, each with a piece of luggage that they keep jealously guarded from the others. Until Mr. Owen, the only traveler to be given a name, is foolish enough to allow his suitcase to fall open, showing that it is quite empty. The others leave for destinations unknown, but Mr. Owen undergoes an operatic apotheosis.

Alonzo's Lullaby ~ Nana Projects
March 9 - 11
Gorgeous hand manipulated cut outs tell a tale of madness, passion and intrigue. Inspired by the Hagenback- Wallace Circus train wreck of 1918, this work is performed by three puppeteers (aka lanterneers) who project 2-dimensional images made of plastic and acrylic gels onto a screen with three overhead projectors. Relying on inventive tricks including scrolls of plastic, masking illusions, and faders allow the puppeteers to manipulate the pieces of plastic with a fluidity that is often mistaken for animation. Custom tables hold the overhead projectors and the puppets to allow various animated tricks. With graceful, hand manipulated cutouts and a bold graphic sensibility; this is a unique form of puppetry that in spirit and technique blends the manipulation of objects with the tricks of Victorian Magic Lantern slide shows and brings a modern twist to pre-cinema.
Myth and Infrastructure and Dreaming of Lucid Living ~ Miwa Matreyek
March 16 - 18
Both Myth and Infrastructure and Dreaming of Lucid Living are live performances with projected animation. As the artist walks behind the screen, her shadow becomes an integral part of the animated world – she crosses from domestic/home spaces of kitchens and dining room tables to oceanscapes and cityscapes in a fantastical journey.
Matreyek is an internationally recognized animator, designer, and multi-media artist based in Los Angeles. She creates animated short films as well as live works that integrate animation, performance, and video installation.

KAWA to KAWA (river and skin) ~ Naoko Maeshiba/Kibism
May 24 - 27
Following a highly provocative production of Paraffin (City Paper’s Best Dance Performance in Baltimore), Naoko Maeshiba premieres her first solo piece. This humorous dance theatre draws from her recent research on ‘space, body, and language’ in Tokyo and Czech Republic.
Revisiting a dark musty room with ancestors, drowning in the waves of neon and crowd, and getting lost in a Kafka-esq maze, Maeshiba embraces the sense of ‘displacement’ in a signature, highly physical and hypnotic style. Blending Eastern and Western sensibilities, KAWA to KAWA invites you into a strangely beautiful dreamscape.
